In Memory of Hanna...

and a lesson about Heartworm...Sweet Hanna.
This little darling came to us in terrible shape. We knew that Hanna was heartworm positive, she was skin and bones, and in advanced stages of heartworm disease. We took her to offer her a chance. However, her heartworm was so advanced, she just couldn't handle the battle going on inside her heart and lungs, and little Hanna crossed the Rainbow Bridge, December 13, 2002.

Please take a moment today to think about the unnecessary suffering Hanna endured. When was the last time you had your dog tested for heartworm? Is your dog on preventative? Hanna suffered because of an irresponsible owner who didn't take the time to give her the care she needed. It is our hope that Hanna's loss will be a reminder to many about the real danger of heartworm, and perhaps some other dogs will be saved because of her story.

For complete information about heartworm, please visit American Heartworm Society. And please consult your veterinarian about testing, prevention, and treatment options if your beloved pet tests positive for heartworms.

Pewter! Adopted 2003
Just a quick note to wish you a Merry Christmas!
I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and 2005 is a great year for you and Sweet Pea Foundation!
We're doing very well- Big Sister Pewter is her wonderful, yet Bossy, self. She's learned that in a house with a baby- you need to be heard if you want attention. (or at least that's what she thinks... so we hear A LOT more of her lately). She's got us on a rigid schedule, but is still sweet as ever.
Happy Holidays to you!
Danielle, Rich, Andi and Pewter
Forrest! Adopted July, 2002
Just a quick note from Forrest's family.
He is such a happy boy! His tail wags all the time. He is now a healthy almost 60lb guy! What a change from when you first met him.

He is always busy enjoying his life. He swims at the cabin like a fish, still climbs his favorite tree in the backyard (we are considering building him his own bench), goes hunting with his dad in the corn fields where Brian grew up (he does really well without any formal training) and my favorite part, he likes to cuddle at night before he crawls off to his extra thick bed at night.

Forrest has matured some since you have last seen him. He walks very nice now, knows how to give kisses and loves to play with kids. It took him along time but he doesn't cry while we're driving in the car anymore, and doesn't have a single interest in socks (Forrest used to be obsessed with socks, and always had one in his mouth!).
We love him dearly, he makes us laugh almost every day, but he makes it so easy because he loves us right back. Everyone who meets Forrest thinks he is very special. I just think he knows he is safe and loved and will never have to be scared ever again. I still tell him all the time.
I will try to send you a few new pictures in the near future. Please tell everyone at Sweet Pea that what you do is worth it! Not only is Forrest's life better but ours is too.

Love, Deb and the rest of Forrest's proud family!
